ABOUT US
Kewee Studio is owned and operated by two Maine geologists.
Lisa is a research associate for the University of Maine's
MISC Lab and the
Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence.
Ted teaches high school classes in Earth and Environmental Science. We spend most of
our free time hunting rocks.
The name Kewee (pronounced kiwi) comes from Michigan's
Keweenaw Peninsula, the only place in the
world where commercially abundant quantities of elemental copper have been found.
The peninsula is the oldest metal mining district in the western hemisphere
and its copper mines were a critical component in the industrial development of the U.S.
The Keweenaw Peninsula is also home to Michigan Technological University, from which Lisa
received an M.S. in Geology (Ted went to Lehigh).
